1 <br />CLASSIFICATION TITLE <br />DISTRICT/DIVISION/OFFICE <br />Cal Trans Heavy Equipment Mechanic <br />CalTrans / Division of Equipment 32/0 <br />WORKING TITLE <br />POSITION NUMBER <br />EFFECTIVE <br />Heavy Equipment Mechanic /Shop <br />932 -0 -3713 - <br />As a member. <br />Department - themobility across California by being <br />membersflexible; reporting to work regularly and on time; working cooperatively with <br />team -honestly- .- of the team, as well as <br />those we serve. <br />GENERAL STATEMENT: <br />Under the supervision of a Highway Mechanic Supervisor and or direction of a Heavy Equipment <br />Mechanic Leadworker. The incumbent will be working in a shop and/or field environment; .constructs, <br />inspects, diagnoses, repairs and services automobiles, trucks, tractors, personnel hoists, spray equipment, <br />loaders, graders, snowplows, pumps; .air compressors, diesel and gasoline engines and similar equipment <br />used in the CalTrans fleet. Completes'various repair records and reports, uses computer equipment to <br />input time spent on tasks performed, may assist in instructing or giving direction to helpers, apprentices or <br />,other employees. Incumbents will assume responsibility for reasonable safeguards, proper use and <br />handling of materials, equipment and facilities. Incumbent must posses a valid class C driver license. At <br />times, it may be necessary to work outside and or travel to assist at a field mechanic's location, or a <br />highway maintenance station. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must be able to work in these areas in <br />inclement weather, which may include severe cold or heat. At times it may be necessary to assist with the <br />daily operation of the shop, which may include any or all of the duties, listed below. At times it will be <br />necessary to make trips to field locations to assess and clearly communicate needed repairs or parts. <br />Job assignments may be subject to travel, rotation, changes of shift, work hours <br />and workdays. <br />19 ' WTI 4 F9111 ff 4.1 <br />Percentage Job Description <br />Essential (E)/Marginal (M) <br />(� Performs scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and lubrication services on all <br />types of automotive and heavy equipment; i.e., loaders, graders and snow removal <br />equipment. <br />%(� Diagnoses problems, makes repairs, and performs major overhauls on gas and diesel <br />engines, transmissions, final drives, brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems, suspension <br />and steering components, etc. <br />% Assembles, modifies and fabricates equipment and components, does various types of <br />welding, prepares equipment for painting where small repairs have been made and aerosol <br />paints can be used. <br />% Accesses database for input of time, work orders and to retrieve vehicle records. Maintains <br />a safe and orderly work area. Does shop housekeeping, and properly disposes of <br />
