Converting from metal halide high bay fixtures <br />to four foot 4 lamp T5 fixtures is not only more <br />energy efficient it also offers faster start-up and <br />restart. The instant start capability in <br />fluorescent lamps is a substantial advantage 4 <br />over metal halide fixtures where there is a delay <br />of up to several minutes between when the light 2 <br />switch is turned off and when it can be turned <br />on again. The fluorescent lamp also offers reduced glare, lower lumen depreciation <br />rates, and better color rendition. <br />Although not offered by the Energy Fitness Program, in instances such as low - <br />occupancy areas where an area may be over light and under occupied, occupancy <br />sensors can be another good source of energy savings. <br />The Energy Fitness Team removed 106 lamps that were deemed excessive lighting. <br />Besides wasting energy, excessive lighting reduces visual acuity and causes glare and <br />discomfort.
