McCormick and Baxter Memorandum Page 5
Disposal Profile Sampling
Office 2: This sample was collected near the southwest corner of
the command post approximately 1.5 feet east of the building corner
and 1.5 feet below the roof. The sample appeared to have been
untreated wood.
Office 3: This sample was collected near the north entrance of the
command post behind a filing cabinet. The sample location was on
the east wall approximately 5 feet from the door and 2 feet above
the floor. A wall stud sample was collected by breaking through
the sheet rock.
Office 4: This sample was collected near the west entrance of the
command post behind a divider wall, to the north of the door,
approximately 2 feet above the floor. A wall stud sample was
collected by breaking through the chicken wire and plaster outer
covering.
DISCUSSION OF SAMPLE RESULTS
It must be noted that none of the samples sent to the laboratory
came from the eight loads of material sent to the Stockton City
Landfill (SCL) . The majority of the samples collected did not
represent the matrix of the material sent to the SCL, ie. concrete
was sampled but not sent to the landfill.
During the July 5, 1994 sampling event the sample team used a low
level quality control sampling approach as they expected non-detect
levels of PCPs in the sampled materials. Samples Debris A and
Debris C consisted of pieces of wood of unknown origin picked off
the ground. These could easily have been cross contaminated pieces
from other areas of the site and do not truly represent materials
earlier sent to the SCL.
Sample Debris B was of concrete. No concrete was sent to the
landfill. Samples Debris D and Debris E were of treated wood which
is not representative of the material sent to SCL. Samples Debris
D and Debris E were taken to determine PCP levels in treated wood.
Materials sampled during this event were sent to a Class I landfill
except for the concrete which was sent to a recycling facility.
Samples gathered on July 14, 1994 were gathered by TAT and the OSC.
Sample 714-CP was concrete and is not representative of debris sent
to the SCL. Sample 714-RP was of treated wood and was collected to
further characterize PCP levels in treated wood. This sample is
not representative of material sent to SCL. Samples 714-FP and
714-MFP were collected by TAT and the OSC with more care given to
