Metal fines generated from metal grinding, drilling, and cutting are being disposed of without first
determining particle size or hazardous properties. Metal fines were observed in the trash in the metal
working area. According to statements submitted to EHD and the date on the bucket label, this facility
began accumulating metal fines for analysis in a 5 gallon bucket in July 2011. According to Mr. Fouts,
the amount of metals accumulated has not been enough for a sample. The amount of metal fines
observed in the trash can were more than the amount accumulated in the bucket over the last year. The
metal fines were removed from the trash at the time of inspection and placed in the hazardous waste
storage area. Any person who generates a waste shall determine if the waste is a hazardous waste.
Immediately stop disposal of metal fines, make a hazardous waste determination for the grinding, drilling,
and cutting waste, and manage it according the Title 22 hazardous waste regulations. Particles.100
microns or smaller must be handled as hazardous waste if the metal is determined to be a hazardous
waste. Submit a statement and supporting documentation explaining how this waste was managed by
October 13, 2012.
REPEAT VIOLATION
ALL EHD STAFF TIME ASSOCIATED WITH FAILING TO COMPLY BY THE ABOVE NOTED DATES WILL BE BILLED AT THE CURRENT HOURLY RATE.
THIS FACILITY IS SUBJECT TO REINSPECTION AT ANY TIME AT END'S CURRENT HOURLY RATE
Inspector Receive By: Title:
i
EHD 22-02ev 04/ /1 age 4 HW INSPECTION REPORT
