Managing Your Hazardous Waste Collection Area
Now that you have your hazardous waste area set up and understand the
requirements for properly collecting your waste, the hazardous waste
collection area must be properly maintained. The Store Manager is
responsible for assigning colleagues to manage the store's collection area.
Review the sections below for detailed instructions on maintaining your
area.
Conducting Weekly Inspections:
Each store is required to complete a weekly inspection of the hazardous
waste collection area. The Store Manager must assign a colleague to
complete the required inspections and ensure they have received this
training. This inspection ensures that your storage area is in compliance with
applicable laws and regulations. Inspecting your waste storage area will also
alert you to any problems, such as spill or leaks. The CVS/pharmacy Weekly
Hazardous Waste Inspection Log must be used to document store
inspections.
The Weekly Inspection Log is designed so that all questions should be
answered "Yes." All store operations are required to be inspected. At the
top of the Weekly Inspection Log, you must place a check mark next to each
area inspected in your weekly inspection and fill in the number of containers
inspected.
For all questions answered with a "No", you must identify the deficiency and
complete a corrective action. Record on the Weekly Inspection Log all
corrective actions taken and attach any supporting documents, if applicable.
It is OK to answer a question "No" as long as the item is corrected in a timely
manner and properly documented on the Weekly Inspection Log. All
completed Weekly Inspection Logs must be filed in the EH&S Program Binder
and maintained for at least three (3) years. See example Weekly Inspection
Log in the EH&S Program Binder.
Waste A "Hazardous Waste Manifest" is the legal shipping document that must
Manifest accompany every shipment of hazardous waste. When StrongPak or PSC
Records makes a pickup at your store, they are required to leave the Store Manager
or Manager -in -Charge a completed manifest. They may also provide a
"Land Disposal Restriction" (LDR) form, which relates to the manifest and
must be maintained together with the manifest.
© CVS/pharmacy 13
CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS INFORMATION
CVS000010354
