Using the Once you have determined that a waste item is hazardous, place the waste
StrongPak item in its own self-sealing StrongPak bag. The StrongPak bags, in most
System states, are specifically designed to be used as a "container," while the
StrongPak box or tote provides secondary containment. Bags are also meant
to keep different materials separate, therefore, only one Front Store item
may be collected in each bag. This step is critical to make sure that
incompatible items (such as ammonia and bleach) do not mix. Stores may
Lot use plastic bags from CVS/pharmacy shelves for hazardous waste.
© CVS/pharmacy
7
To properly manage hazardous waste, follow the instructions provided:
1) Place the entire waste item, including all packaging, into a StrongPak
self-sealing bag. Remember: Only one item per bag.
2) If the item is leaking, follow the "Leaking Items Procedure" described in
the Front Store training course.
3) Close the self-sealing bag completely.
4) Double-check seal to be certain the bag is closed.
5) If the item's label is not legible, write the product name on the outside
of the bag with a black permanent marker.
6) Place bagged waste item carefully into the appropriate labeled
StrongPak container. Due to chemical properties of the hazardous
waste items, mishandling these items could cause an accident or injury.
Place larger, heavier items at the bottom of the container if possible.
7) Ensure the "STORE, "PHOTO," or "PHARMACY" Hazardous Waste
label is placed on the outside of the StrongPak box or plastic tote.
Additional labels may be required depending on state requirements.
Refer to the State Specific Requirements Section of your EH&S Program
Binder.
8) The Date, Store #, and Address must be filled in when the label is
attached. This step is very important and must not be forgotten.
9) Bags must be kept closed at all times. Do not re -open a bag once it is
inside the collection container.
10) All collection containers must be stored in such a way that the label is
visible and the containers can be easily inspected for leaks or damage.
11) When the StrongPak box is full, firmly close the flaps on the full box and
build a new box. Follow instructions above for all new boxes. If your
store is using plastic totes, obtain additional totes as needed and label
appropriately.
12) Any large waste electronic items that cannot fit inside the "STORE"
StrongPak box should be placed in the hazardous waste collection area,
labeled as e -waste, and marked for pick-up by the StrongPak technician
at the time of the next service event.
12
CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS INFORMATION
CVS000010353
