1
Hazairdous Waste e n Area
All wastes identified as hazardous must be managed using the CVS Pharmacy Hazardous
Waste Management Program specifications.
Setting Your Retail Waste Collection Area
Each Store Manager is required to set-up a hazardous waste collection area in the
backroom of the store. Your store will receive a start-up kit along with instructions on how
to set up the collection area. The Store Manager must set aside a permanent space for the
store's collection containers keeping in mind that you must keep the containers in view and
accessible, but protected from potential damage. Choose your collection area wisely as you
may have to complete additional requirements should you decide to move the area at a
later date.
Follow the steps outlined below for initial set up of your collection area:
Step Action
1 Locate and ensure you have received all program materials per the packing list received
in your shipment.
2 Designate an area in the backroom or another secure indoor area. The space should
allow for the following:
a. Wall space for hanging program posters;
b. Space for the hazardous waste collection containers; and
c. Storage space nearby for extra program supplies.
3 Mount program posters on the wall at eye level.
4 Hang program guide in the collection area so it is accessible for colleagues to
reference, if needed.
5 Set up hazardous waste collection containers.
6 Place an applicable hazardous waste container label on each container(i.e., "STORE,"
or"PHARMACY")
• Note that"STORE" labels in select states will consist of 6 separate types.
7 Complete labels with the store#and address at the time of setup. The accumulation
start date must be added when an item is first placed into the container.
8 Place "STORE" hazardous waste collection container(s) in the designated collection
area, and ensure label is complete and clearly visible.
9 Place "PHARMACY" hazardous waste collection container in the Pharmacy. The
"PHARMACY" container must remain in the Pharmacy at all times, including when the
container becomes full. Ensure label is complete and clearly visible.
Pharmacy- 49
VCVS I Inv,ronmental 11
Health&Safety
