UST Closure Report <br /> Sharpe Defense Distribution Region West <br /> Lathrop,California Page 6 <br /> 3.1.2 Equipment <br /> Equipment utilized at the site included the following: <br /> • Water tank truck and hot water pressure washer for rinsing the USTs and product piping; <br /> • 325 Caterpillar excavator for unearthing and excavating around the USTs; <br /> • 60-ton crane to lift the USTs from the excavation; <br /> • Hitachi EX200 excavator with a breaker attachment to break up concrete dispenser islands <br /> and drive pads; <br /> • John Deere 310 backhoe with a clamshell bucket to load product piping into bins; <br /> • Volvo L90 loader, a John Deere 550 80 HP bulldozer and two, 10-wheel end-dump trucks to <br /> relocate stockpiled excavation materials; <br /> • a Volvo L120C front-end loader with a 4-in-1 bucket, a Caterpillar D5M bulldozer, and <br /> several 10-wheel, rear-dump transport trucks for moving, placing and spreading backfill; <br /> • a Bomag 13W 213PDB-2 soil compactor with a vibratory, 84-inch wide, single, `sheep's <br /> foot' roller, for compacting backfill; <br /> • a John Deere, 50 HP, multibox, landscaper tracker for scraping, and a bob cat sweeper for <br /> sweeping pavement surface surrounding the excavation site; and <br /> • Various non-sparking hand tools. <br /> 3.2 UST Removal <br /> UST removal activities were conducted at the site between December 10, 1998 and February 5, <br /> 1999 under the supervision of Hugh Ashley and Steve Essert of CAL INC. <br /> 3.2.1 Site Preparation <br /> Underground utility lines were located and marked on the surface by Subtronic Corporation on <br /> September 8, 1998. On December 10, all diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline was pumped, under <br /> the direction of the US Army Corps of Engineers, from the USTs and transferred to the new <br /> above ground storage tanks installed by CAL INC on the depot near 1"Avenue. A facility status <br /> report on the tank contents for December 10 indicated the 8 USTs contained a total of 4112 <br /> gallons of diesel fuel and 7790 gallons of unleaded gasoline prior to being pumped. On <br /> December 14, 408 feet of 6-foot high, wire chain link security fencing was installed on the <br /> perimeter of the site to provide security and safety. <br /> 3.2.2 UST and Piping Rinsing <br /> ® All product and vapor return piping between dispensers and USTs were triple rinsed with hot <br /> water. The rinsate was backflushed and drained into USTs. Delta Oilfield Services vacuumed <br /> 1,500 gallons of sludge from the USTs on December 17, 1998 for transport and disposal.
