Whenever the tanks are stored at the site, Inock them in place to <br />prevent rolling. ;See gure 1-2). 1 ie them down if high winds are <br />excected. <br />After delivery and 'before ore -installation testing, visually inspect <br />the -entire exterior surface of the tank for signs of damage (holes, <br />cracks or deep scrapes). <br />Verify that all of the safe -delivery provisions of the Xerxes <br />"Damage Free Delivery" program have been followed. Sign the <br />driver's release form. <br />All Xerxes tanks are tested prior to shipment but it is required that <br />all tanks be tested prior to instailation in order to verify the <br />absence of shipping and handling damage. In the unlikely event <br />of a leak, it is most likely to develop at a manway or a fitting. After <br />installation and before backfilling to grade, the test must be <br />repeated to verify that no damage has occurred during <br />installation. <br />Refer to the appropriate section below for the instructions for <br />testing a single wall tank, a double wail tank with a dry interstttial <br />space or a double wall tank with a liquid -filled interstitial space. <br />if damage is detected, DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIRS. Contact the <br />UST Coordinator at the Xerxes plant nearest you or the Technical <br />Service Department at Xerxes corporate office. Telephone <br />numbers are found on the last page of this manual. <br />Construct a test manifold as shown in Figure 2-1. Before beginning <br />the test, notify ail people on the test site to remain in a safe <br />location. ALWAYS ATTEND THE TANK DURING THE TEST. <br />Avoid extended exposure to the manways, fittings and ends of <br />the tank during the test <br />�► WARNING: <br />The maximum test pressure is 5 PSIG (3 PSIG when testing a <br />12 foot tank). The pressure gauge must be positioned so that <br />the pressure readings can be clearly read at all times. <br />t. Open one service fitting. Remove the remaining fittings, <br />redope, and reinstall fitting plugs. <br />2. Install the test manifold in the open service fitting. Connect the <br />pressure source to the test manifold. (See Figure 2-2). <br />3. Pressurize the tank to 5 PSIG (3 PSIG when testing a 12 foot <br />tank). Add or remove air as necessary and allow the pressure <br />to stabilize. <br />4. Close the valve on the test manifold. Discennect the air supply <br />line. <br />5. Monitor the pressure for one hour. Soap the entire exterior of <br />the tank and watch for active air bubbles which indicate a leak. <br />6. When the test is complete, carefully release the air pressure <br />from the tank by opening the air supply valve. The air supply <br />line snouki already have been disconnected.
