Job No. 9815012
June 11, 1998
Page 4
Sampling personnel were responsible for the protection and custody of the samples until they
were relinquished. When samples custody was transferred, the respective individuals relinquishing
and receiving the samples signed, dated, and recorded the time on the chain -of -custody form.
. 1 1 ZrAKICKII
As recommended by Mr. McClellon, the collected soil samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-G) and est Method EPA 8260 (Oxygenates) hydrocarbon
constituents Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Total Xylenes (BTEX) and Methyl -t -Butyl
Ether (MTBE). Chemical analyses data are attached to this report. The data indicate that
Oxygenates constituents were not detected in the soil samples analyzed. The data further indicate
that among the hydrocarbon constituents of concern were detected only in the soil sample S-1
collected from a depth of 3 feet beneath the former location of Dispenser D-1. Concentration of
the constituents of concern in this soil sample was reported as follows: Benzene @ 4.2 mg/Kg
Ethylebenzene @ 9.5 mg/Kg, Toluene @ 8.8 mg/Kg, Total Xylenes @ 110 mg/Kg and TPH-G @
1900 mg/Kg.
. V . 1
The USTs backfill soil was excavated and West Star prior to arrival of ASR to the site had
exposed the USTs. Subsurface soils, to the excavated depth of about 12 feet, predominantly
comprise tan and gray clayey sand. The soils below a depth of about 5 feet were moderately
cemented (hardpan). Visual observations revealed indications of hydrocarbon impairment beneath
the dispensers. No significant hydrocarbon odor or discolored soils were detected within the
USTs excavation. The USTs appeared to be in good condition. Minor rusting was apparent on
their exterior surfaces.
This report has been prepared in accordance withthe generally accepted standards of
environmental practice m the area at the time the US I s excavation was performed. No soil
engineering or environmental implications are stated or should be inferred. Evaluation of the
conditions at the site is made from a limited sampling points. Subsurface conditions may vary
away from the sampling locations. The report does not reflect variation away from the sampling
points.
ASR En&mring
