PREPARING THE SITE [cont'd]• Step Four— Tank Sumps Mount tank sumps to underground storage tanks (See Tank Sump Instructions for detailed information). Step Five— Dispenser Sumps A) Mount dispenser sumps into dispenser island forms (refer to Dispenser Sump Instructions, DSI830, for details). Step Two— Secondary Fittings Install bulkhead fittings, if applicable. For directions, refer to the Bulkhead Fitting Instructions, BFI726, sup- plied with the fittings. Step Six Make sure no backfill voids are present. Allow backfill material to be even with the bottom of the bulkhead fitting or cuffed pen- etration. Note: Avoiding direct dumping of backfill will help to eliminate sump distortion. Before proceeding with this section, refer to page 6 for the proper components that correspond to the type of secondary contain- ment piping being installed. Then attach any inserts or stiffeners and the bulkhead fittings to each end of the secondary pipe. Then torque the appropriate stainless steel clamp 1 to 2 foot pounds. B) Now, using the proper test assemblies, apply 3 to 5 psi. Hold the test for 15 minutes. If pressure drops, soap test the piping to determine the problem. (TCI does not allow any secondary pipe to be repaired. If a problem is present, discard that section of pipe.) • INSTALLING THE SECONDARY PIPE Step One— Measuring and Cutting the Secondary Pipe With all sumps in place, lay secondary pipe in trench from penetration to penetration; be careful to follow proposed contour of pipe in trench. Add 1' of pipe as safety factor. Cut pipe with appropriate tool to insure an even cut. Lay cut secondary pipe in trench before making final cut. Step Two— Laying Piping Runs Make sure pipe runs are cen- tered in trench and laying side by side (at least 411 apart). Main- tain minimum clearance of 6" from trench sides. Check slope. If secondary pipe must be crossed, allow minimum clear- ance of 4" between pipes. Step Three— Inserting Stiffener and Inspecting Secondary Pipe SnFFENER SECONDARY PIPE Step Four— Sealing Pipe Page 2 - Enviroflex Instructions If using SP4500, insert stiffener (CS3939) in secondary pipe. Stiffeners are shipped with Enviroflex bulkhead fittings (FB/CB3950) and Enviroflex compression seals (EF5039). In- spect inside of cuff or bulkhead and remove any sand or dirt. Make certain there is no gravel trapped inside secondary pipe. If using SP4500, insert second- ary pipe into bulkhead fitting or compression seal so rib of seal locks into first corrugation valley on pipe. If using VP2501, insert the pipe into the bulk- head until the end of the pipe extends slightly past the middle band clamp. Torque secondary clamp 1 to 2 foot pounds to obtain seal on secondary pipe. 7 •
