PRESSURE TESTING THE PRIMARY
Pressure testing primary pipe involves two procedures:
1) Testing each run of pipe individually before installa-
tion; follow instructions below.
2) Testing primary pipe after entire system is connected;
see page 5.
Pressure Testing the Coupling
A) Apply lubricant (non-
D ® granular, clean grease or oil) to
inner surface of copper washer
(WS1000 for 1-1/2"; WS2500
11a► for 2-1/2") to aid in keeping
copper washer aligned and ro-
Important. Do not use Iubdeant tating freely until seated. Place
containing particulate matter. copper washer on cone seat of
test plug. Thread test plug into
coupling making sure copper
washer is aligned correctly.
Tighten plug sufficiently to
deform copper washer (mini-
mum 60 foot pounds).
60 PSI
60 PSI
B) Pressurize primary pipe to
60 psi (or that which is required
by local code). Allow pipe to
stabilize under pressure ap-
proximately 15 minutes. Ex-
amine gauge for pressure loss
which may indicate leakage in
assembly. After completing
test, if pressure is lost, remove
test plug from female fitting,
look for debris or misaligned
washer, and repeat sequence.
If pressure is lost again, cut off
coupling and recouple.
After successful completion of pressure test, remove test
plug and copper washer. Copper washers can be reused
for all pressure tests.
A NEW COPPER WASHER MUST BE USED FOR FINAL CONNECTION.
When testing primary pipe, trapped air between the lay-
ers will escape. This is not a leak.
(Pressurizing the pipe to 90 psi at this stage will reduce the
time it takes for the trapped air to escape.)
•
ASSEMBLING THE PIPING COMPONENTS
Carefully remove the red plastic caps protecting the threads
and beveled sealing surfaces on the brass Elbows, Tees,
Y's or Adaptors. Inspect the beveled sealing surfaces for
damage and immediately replace the protective caps leav-
ing them in place during all further steps, until just prior
to the final connection of the primary piping.
Step One— Assembling the Tee/Elbow [with impact valve]
A) Secure riser pipe (1-1/2"
for 1-1/2" primary; 2" for 2-1/
2") in vise and coat threads
thoroughly with product com-
patible pipe joint compound.
Pipe threads must be 1" max.;
longer threads may keep pipe
from sealing in fitting.
B) Thread appropriate tee fit-
ting (TE 1500, TE2500, TE2515)
or 90° elbow fitting (EL1500,
EL2500) onto riser pipe and
tighten until seal is obtained.
C) On opposing end of riser
pipe, coat threads with pipe
joint compound. Thread on im-
pact valve and tighten until
seal is obtained. Make sure
impact valve mounting holes
are parallel with fitting inlets.
Note: Use boss mount impact
valves only; U -bolts cannot be
used for mounting to TCI dis-
penser sumps.
D) Assemble mounting bracket
onto boss mount impact valve.
Do not make final connection to
stabilizer bar until all primary
piping connections are made.
Step Two— Connecting the Primary Pipe
A) Screw pulling cone into coupling at one end of primary
pipe. Attach static grounding wire (optional), in lazy
spiral, to end of pipe to be pushed or pulled through
secondary line.
Page 4 - Enviroflex Instructions
B) Place primary pipe with
pulling cone into secondary
pipe opening at sump. Push
primary pipe through second-
ary line. For piping runs with
multiple curves or long runs,
pulling rope may be desired.
is
•
