Tait & Associa
Show the employees the indications of a system that is in alarm (audible,
visual, LCD text). Explain the importance of never ignoring a system that is in
alarm status.
Show employees an alarm history (use previous DO inspections or pull a
current history). Explain to them the different types of alarms, highlighting
alarms which could indicate a potential problem with the UST system (sensor
alarms) vice those which may indicate something as benign as a TLS printer
requiring paper.
Regardless of the severity, all alarms must be responded to. Ensure each
facility employee knows who to contact in the event their system is in alarm.
Show them where the contact information is posted.
Discuss the procedures for documenting alarms. Some owner/operators
maintain a record of alarms by retaining the TLS printouts, while other
transcribe alarms into a logbook. Ensure the facility employees understand
what the procedure is at their site.
7
