Fuel Spills & Cleanup Procedures
• Safety First — Don't Panic
® Spill Response Procedures
— Stop Flow
• Emergency Shutoff (ESO)
• Main Electrical Panel
Assess / Determine Severity
— Customer/ Employee Safety
• Restrict Access
• Evacuate Area
(c)2005. Tait & Associates, Inc.
As a facility employee, you play a critical role as the "first responder" to
hazardous substance spills or releases. In the event of a release, stay calm,
panicking will destabilize the situation and create even more safety hazards.
Stop the release as soon as possible by exercising the Emergency Shutoff
Switch or by cutting off power at the main electrical panel. Show each
employee the ESO and explain its function.
Once the flow has been stopped, assess the situation. The first priority should
be to eliminate the risks of exposure to your customers or other employees.
Restrict access to the affected area. If the severity of the release dictates,
evacuate the site except for required personnel.
:1
