i
g. Existing or potential hazards (fire, explosion; etc.) if
any.
h. Personnel injuries or casualties, if any.
I. Corrective action being taken to control, contain and
cleanup spill, to include a time table.
J. Name(s) and telephone number(s) of individual(s) who
discovered and/or reported the spill.
k. Other unique or unusual circumstances of the spill.
IV. Oil Spills from Oil Handling Facilities
Oil spills and leaks from the oil handling facilities should be
corrected as soon as possible. The fuel handling system should not
be operated for an engine or turbine test run if there is an oil
leak in the system. A test run should be terminated as soon as a
leak or spill is identified. Spills or leaks identified during
auxiliary power generation activities should be corrected as soon
as practicable, however, activities should continue as long as they
are safe.
Oil leaks and spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible using
oil absorbent sheets or other materials. Spilled oil and oil soaked
materials should be placed in steel drums for disposal. If a large
quantity of oil is spilled, consideration should be given to hiring
a waste oil processing firm that can pump the spilled oil into con-
tainers. Leaked or spilled oil should not be washed into sumps
where it can be pumped into the sewer.
Spilled oil and oil soaked materials should be turned over to a
waste oil processing firm or hazardous waste contractor licensed to
handle them as soon as possible. The spilled oil and oil soaked
materials should not be disposed in a dumpster or trash cans that
are handled by the routine waste disposal service. Spilled oil and
oil soaked materials should not be stored for an extended period of
time within the building.
Complete the Hazardous Material Incident Report (Appendix C of this
Plan or Sec. 9 of the Hazardous Materials Management Handbook) by
providing the information discussed in Paragraph III 3 above. This
report should be prepared by the appropriate supervisor. The
originator's copy should be stored with the oil spill inspection
and surveillance records in the Switching Control Center for a period
of three years. The Environmental Management copy should be sent
to the Company's Environmental Management District.
RKE71701428534
