(AddendumRESPIRATORY
PRRP O
I. Purpose
To provide a procedure to obtain compliance or respiratory protection when working in,
supervising, or inspecting area where it has been determined or is suspected that exposure to
toxic substances may exceed allowable levels established by NIOSH and OSHA.
II. Scope
This general procedure, and the Company Respiratory Protection Program, applies to all
employees of Wright Environmental Services, Inc.
III. Procedures
A. This general procedure constitues a minimum standard and guideline for
respiratory protection.
B. Studies have shown that occupational disease may be caused by breathing air
contaminated with harmful dust, fumes, mists, gases, smoke, sprays or vapors.
The first step in minimizing worker exposure to airborne contaminants consists of
prevention or elimination, where possible, atmospheric contamination prior to
entering the work area. This shall be accompanied, as far as feasible, by accepted
engineering control measures (e.g., containment, ventilation, etc.) When effective
engineering controls are not feasible, or before adequate controls are implemented,
and during emergency or upset condtions, appropriate respirators shall be used
puresuant to the following requirements.
C. The following Respirator Program requirements are based on regualtions
established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
• The requirements governing the selection and use of respirators during
routine operations and in emergencies shall be included in the
Respiratory Protection Program.
• Respirators shall be selected on the basis of hazards to which the
employee is exposed and in accordance with ANSI Z88.2.
• The user shall be instructed and trained in the proper use and fit of
respirators and in their limitations.
• Wherever possible, reapirators shall be assigned to individual employees
for their exclusive use. Respirators for emergency use only shall be
stored in sanitary locations.
• Respirators shall be cleaned and disinfected after each day's use, or more
often if necessary.
• Respirators used routinely shall be inspected by the employee during
cleaning. Worn and/or deteriorated parts shall be replaced.
• Persons shall not be assigned to tasks requiring the use or respirators
unless it has been determined that they are physically able to perform the
work and use the equipment. Workers must pass a physical examination,
