°a
827-D1U1, 865-D1U1, and 871-D1U1. These are in-use 8000-,4000-, and 2000-
gallon underground tanks at Buildings 827, 865, and 871, respectively. They are
used to supply diesel fuel to boilers that provide winter space heat and/or year
round process heat. Beginning in the first week of June, 1993, these tank
systems were brought into compliance with leak monitoring regulations when
we began performing monthly tank integrity testing in accordance with Section
2643(c)(1) of the Underground Storage Tank Regulations. (When the boiler is
temporarily shut down for the summer at Building 871, we will substitute
weekly sticking for monthly tank integrity testing on tank 871-DlU1 until it is
returned to service.) We will continue the monitoring program for these three
systems until closure activities begin late this year or early next year. Closure
plans for these systems will be submitted to allow for the time necessary for
your review. The tanks at Buildings 827 and 871 will be replaced with new
doubly contained tank systems; the tank at Building 865 will be closed without
replacement.
If you have any questions, please call Richard Henry at (510) 423-3641.
Sincerely,
C1191' !
C.
