CLOSURE REPORT FOR <br /> UNDERGROUND DIESEL STORAGE TANK <br /> 836-D1U1 <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Location of underground storage tank (UST) 836-DlUl at Lawrence Livermore National <br /> Laboratory(LLNL): on the west side of Building 836,Site 300. <br /> The tank supplied diesel fuel to the Building 836 standby generator which is northeast of the <br /> tank. <br /> The tank was closed because it lacked secondary containment, and is being replaced by an <br /> aboveground diesel tank. <br /> Date the tank was removed from service: 3/11/94. <br /> Date the tank Closure Plan was submitted to San joaQuin County Public Health Services on <br /> 1/10/94. <br /> Tank Volume Dimensions Construction Date of Contents <br /> (gallons) Installation <br /> 280 3-3/4 ft.x 4 ft. Diesel Fuel <br /> Carbon Steel (possibly 1966) <br /> [ X ] UST 836-DlU1 approved Closure Plan Application for Underground Tank Closure <br /> Permit enclosed as Appendix A. <br /> TANK/PIPING INFORMATION: <br /> The tank contents were recovered by: LLNL-Hazardous Waste Management (HWM) <br /> Date: 3/10/94. <br /> The tank contents were transported by: According to Rob Tageson, LLNL-HWM, six 55-gallon <br /> drums (Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest#92884598, line 11d; corresponding Hazardous <br /> Waste Disposal Requisitions #H127066, #H127067, #H127068, #H127069, #H127070, and <br /> #H127071) were filled with unused diesel fuel from the UST 836-DlU1 (3/10/94) and <br /> transported by Joseph Salazar from Site 300 to the LLNL main site (4/20/94). The diesel was <br /> then transported LLNL to Romic Environmental Technologies Corp.for disposal on 6/22/94. <br /> The tank contents were disposed of as: 2,550 pounds waste diesel fuel Date: 6/22/94. <br /> Final disposition of the tank's content: Romic Environmental Technologies Corp. Date: 6/22/94. <br /> Name and address of disposal facility: Romic Environmental Technologies Corp.,2081 Bay Road, <br /> East Palo Alto,CA 94303 <br /> [ X ] LLNL Hazardous Waste Disposal Requisitions (6) and Uniform Hazardous Waste <br /> Manifest "Treatment, Storage, Disposal (TSD) Facility to Generator" (1) copy for tank <br /> contents are enclosed as Appendix B. <br /> A representative of San Joaquin County,Mr.William Snavely was present during tank removal <br /> activities. <br /> Method of inerting: Addition of 25 lbs.dry ice into tank per 1000 gallons 50 lbs total). <br /> Lower explosive limit (LEL) reading or oxygen level reading within the tank prior to tank <br /> removal: The LEL was 2%,and the Oxygen level was 2.6%. <br /> Name and affiliation of the person who measured the LEL reading or oxygen level reading <br /> within the tank prior to tank removal: Steve Gobel from PetroTek. Also, Dan Rodriguez and <br /> Jerry Ledbetter from LLNL. <br /> The tank was removed by: PetroTek(Fred Nattemkemper) Date: 3/11/94. <br /> Total length of aboveground piping removed: Approximately 10-feet of vent piling. This piping <br /> was removed on 7/26/94, and manifested with UST 871-DlU1 and associated piping <br /> (7/26/94). The UST 871-DlUl Closure Report will be submitted to your office at a later date. <br /> Total length of underground piping removed: On 3/11/94,2-feet of supply and 2-feet of return <br /> line, and 3-foot of fill piping were removed and manifested with UST 836-DlUl. Other <br /> removed pipe sections running from the tank to the edge of the asphalt were comprised of 13- <br /> 1 <br />
