CLOSURE REPORT FOR <br /> UNDERGROUND DIESEL STORAGE TANK <br /> 827-D2U1 <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Location of underground storage tank (UST) 827-D2U1 at Lawrence Livermore National <br /> Laboratory(LLNL): on the south side of Building 827A,Site 300. <br /> The tank supplied diesel fuel to the emergency generator for Building 827A. <br /> The tank was closed because it was scheduled to be replaced by a new 250-gallon aboveground <br /> diesel fuel storage tank. <br /> Date the tank was removed from service: 6/8/94. <br /> Date the tank Closure Plan was submitted to San Joaquin County Public Health Services on <br /> 12/27/93. <br /> Tank Volume Dimensions Construction Date of Contents <br /> (gallons) Installation <br /> 280 36 in. x 46 in. Single-walled 1967 Diesel Fuel <br /> Carbon Steel <br /> [ X ] UST 827-D2U1 approved Closure Plan Application for Underground Tank Closure <br /> Permit enclosed as Appendix A. <br /> TANK/PIPING INFORMATION: <br /> The tank contents were recovered by: LLNL-Hazardous Waste Management (HWM) <br /> Date: 6/8/94. <br /> The tank contents were transported by: An Evergreen Environmental Services tanker containing <br /> 580-gallons diesel fuel was transported on 6/10/94 from Site 300 to Evergreen Oil, Inc. in <br /> Newark, CA (Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest #92258983: corresponding LLNL <br /> Hazardous Waste Disposal Requisitions #H135766 for UST 827-D2U1 (280 gallons), and <br /> #H135765 for UST 805-DlU1 (300 gallons)). <br /> The tank contents were disposed of as: Combustible Liquid n.o.s. (diesel fuel) Date: 6/10/94. <br /> Final disposition of the tank's content: Evergreen Oil,Inc. Date:6/10/94. <br /> Name and address of disposal facility: Evergreen Oil, Inc., 6880 Smith Avenue, Newark, CA <br /> 94560 (510)795-4400. <br /> [ X ] Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest "Treatment, Storage, Disposal (TSD) Facility to <br /> Generator" and LLNL Hazardous Waste Disposal Requisition copies for tank contents <br /> are enclosed as Appendix B. <br /> A representative of San Joaquin County,Mr.William Snavely was present during tank removal <br /> activities. <br /> Method of inerting: Addition of 15 lbs.dry ice into tank. <br /> Lower explosive limit (LEL) reading or oxygen level reading within the tank prior to tank <br /> removal: Steve Gobel,Petrotek —2%LEL,3%O� <br /> Jerry Ledbetter,Hazards Control Technician(LLNL)—0%LEL,2.4%02 <br /> Name and affiliation of the person who measured the LEL reading or oxygen level reading <br /> within the tank prior to tank removal: Steve Gobel(PetroTek)and Jerry Ledbetter(LLNL)_ <br /> The tank was removed by: PetroTek(Fred Nattekemper) Date: 22 94 <br /> m . <br /> Total length of aboveground piping removed: None. <br /> Total length of underground piping removed: Product(12-feet each supply and return pining, <br /> 3/4-inch diameter) and vent line 12il2ing(total of 12-feet of steel, 2-inch diameter) was <br /> removed by PetroTek on 6/22/94 and transported by Erickson to the Erickson facility <br /> (Manifest #92258988: Hazardous Waste Disposal Requisition #H135767 for UST 827-132111,_ <br /> and#H135764 for UST 805-D1U1). <br /> Type/diameter of aboveground piping: None. <br /> 1 <br />
