0
u
Integrated Site Operating Controllers (SOCs) are a new development to the
industry. For several years there have been systems that offered tank level
gauging and line leak functions, however, a closer evaluation of these
products revealed that they contained only stand alone tank level gauging
controllers and line leak controllers mounted in a common enclosure.
Significant performance gains are achieved when all external and internal
sensor signals, located at one site, are processed by one controller. Events
identified by one sensor can then be used to better control or evaluate the
events of another.
An example was previously mentioned where the activity of the product pump, a
known value In the line leak system, can be used to abort and then re -Start
the tank testing function. This allows the tank testing function to always be
active during times of no pumping activity, thereby not affecting sales.
The tank level probe can be used to stop the pump when the tank level reaches a
predetermined low point. This eleminates potential pump motor
overheating.
The Integrated Site Controller can be used to automatically alternate between
tanks when two tanks are used for the same product. In this case, the tank
level probe is used to identify which of the two tanks has the highest level.
This tank will be used on the next pumping cycle. Tank selection by level
allows the tanks to empty at a uniform rate and thus improve the product
ordering/delivery process.
The Integrated Site Controller can project the anticipated tank levels for 12, 24,
36, or 48 hours into the future, for all products, based on recent sales
volume. This projection is constantly updated based upon the most recent
i
sales. Upon achieving a preset low level in any tank, the controller can
automatically place an order, for all products, to make the most efficient
use of the specific delivery trucks.
Control Engineers, U.S.A.
