F5. Mounting Turbine Enclosure to
Collar (cont).
To adjust for the -------------
burial depth, trim {—
the top of the (
turbine enclosure.
—Turbine Enclosure
Sand and clean all
joint areas prior to
1j
applying adhesive.
---
_ — Collar
Step #1- Sand and Clean Mating Surfaces
-Wipe the mating surfaces clean.
• Sand bottom 3" of the turbine enclosure interior surface
using supplied sandpaper.
• Sand outside surface of the adhesive channel on the
secondary containment collar.
❑ All surfaces must be sanded until they appear "white" in
color.
Step #2 - Position Turbine Enclosure on Collar
• Use a rubber mallet, if necessary, to seal turbine enclosure on
collar.
• Confirm that surfaces inside adhesive channel are dry and
clean, before mixing or applying the adhesive.
• As an option, you may apply tape to the exterior of the joint
to minimize adhesive run on the exterior of the turbine
enclosure.
Step #3 - Mix and Apply the Adhesive
Always Wear Protective Goggles and
AWARNING Gloves When Mixing and Applying
Adhesive. The Adhesive Materials are
Flammable. Keep Adhesive Materials
Away from Sparks and Ignition Sources.
• See Adhesive Applications Guidelines.
❑ Adhesive shelf life is six months.
• Thoroughly mix two-part adhesive in accordance with the
detailed mixing instructions contained in the adhesive kit.
❑ Properly mixed adhesive will turn dark red.
• Apply with supplied putty knife.
• Fill the channel from inside turbine enclosure.
❑ Can be applied either before or after backfilling around
the turbine enclosure.
Step #4 — Curing
• Allow adhesive to cure 24 hours minimum.
❑ Mating parts must not be moved before adhesive is fully
cured.
• Apply supplemental heat to initiate adhesive curing
process. (For outside ambient temperatures below 60°F).
• See Adhesive Application Guidelines.
O Sand these surfaces first, place turbine
HDPE Top enclosure onto collar, then apply
adhesive into the adhesive channel.
Turbine Enclosure
A
dhesive
Enclosure
Channel
Collar
Adhesive
Coll
Step #5 - Testing
• See section F7, Hydrostatic Water Test for details.
Adhesive Application Guidelines
AWARNING The Adhesive Materials and
Vapors are Flammable. To
Prevent Fire or Explosion Hazard,
if a Heat Gun (or other Ignition
Source) is used for Supplemental
Heat, First Evacuate Flammable
Vapors Which May Accumulate in
the Bottom of the Turbine
Enclosure.
Use the following guidelines, which are based on outside
ambient temperature, to mix and apply adhesive.
(Adhesive shelf life is six months. Check production date
on box).
When required for turbine enclosure adhesive:
• Recommended method for supplemental heat is to
transfer warm air to the turbine enclosure while keeping
ignition sources away.
Heat sources:
• Salamander heater. • Radiant heater.
-Heat gun (maximum output temperature 200°F).
❑ Can be used for turbine enclosure adhesive if outside
temperature is at least 45°F.
For cold and cool weather (less than 60°F):
• Preheat the adhesive to 650 - 75°F.
• Mix adhesive.
• Add supplemental heat inside the assembled turbine
enclosure to raise temperature of collar and enclosure to
60°F minimum, 150°F maximum.
• Apply adhesive.
• Continue to apply supplemental heat to adhesive until it
hardens (30 minutes minimum).
Continued on next page.
21
