Adhesive Applications Guidelines (cont).
Warm weather (between 61°F and 85°F):
-Adhesive will harden in approximately 30 minutes.
❑ No supplemental heat required.
Hot weather (above 85°F):
• Apply adhesive more rapidly (it will harden in 15
minutes).
• (Alternate) Cool the adhesive to 60°F to slow down
chemical reaction.
❑ Increase allowable application time.
When required for FRP coupling:
• Recommended method for supplemental heat is a hand
held heat gun (maximum output temperature 200°F).
Important: Mix unused tubes of catalyst and any
unused adhesive to form a solid for safe disposal.
Then dispose as a non -hazardous waste in accordance
with federal, state and local regulations.)
F6. Piping Connections
Secondary piping can be connected to the turbine enclosure
using the field installed FRP coupling or rubber grommet.
(both are available from Owens -Coming as optional fitting
kits).
FRP coupling
• Provides water -tight seal at piping penetration for high
groundwater conditions.
• See section G3 for detailed installation instructions.
Rubber grommet
• Provides compression seal to prevent water run-off
from entering turbine enclosure at piping penetration.
❑ Not recommended for high groundwater conditions.
FRP Coupling Detail
FRP Secondary Pipe
Installed in Grommet
Turbine
Enclosure Exterior
Taper ti FRP Secondary
Containment Pipe
. Turbine 7d
Enclosure Exterior Rubber Grommet
• See section G4 for detailed installation instructions.
To minimize water infiltration in turbine enclosure,
FRP couplings or grommets:
• Can be installed anywhere on the turbine enclosure.
❑ Provided they do not interfere with adhesive channel.
❑ Must be aligned radially to turbine enclosure center.
22
F7. Hydrostatic Water Test
AWARNING Failure to Properly Test and Seal Joints
May Result in Product Loss, Environ-
mental Damage, Explosion or Fire.
• The gasket is a maintenance item which will have to be replaced
periodically or when it shows a leak during a tightness test.
• Test both joints of enclosure using a standing water test,
described below.
HDPE Lid (Non -Sealable) Model
To test joint seal between the collar and turbine enclosure:
• Fill turbine enclosure with water 3" above joint seal.
• Record the liquid level.
• Wait 24 hours.
• Remeasure and record the liquid level.
❑ A liquid change more than 1/4" indicates a possible leak.
To test seal of field mounted fittings:
• Fill turbine enclosure with water 3" above fittings.
• Record liquid level
• Wait 24 hours.
• Remeasure and record liquid level.
❑ A liquid change more than 1/4" indicates a possible leak.
Sealable Model
To test both adhesive joints and lid seal:
• Attach a 2" pipe to the 2" lid fitting.
❑ Test before other pipe connections are made through the
turbine enclosure.
OR
❑ Block off the secondary containment pipes
• Fill the enclosure until water is between 1 foot and 5 feet
high in the standpipe behind the lid.
• Wait 3 hours.
• Record the water level in pipe.
• Wait 4 hours.
• Remeasure and record the water level in the pipe.
❑ A liquid level change of more than 1" indicates a possible
leak.
If no leak is indicated:
• Remove all water. Failure to remove water may result in
collar freeze rupture during winter.
• Continue normal operation.
If a leak is suspected:
• Contact Owens -Coming Field Service Office nearest you.
Phone numbers are on page 2.
F8. Electrical Connections
Installing electrical fittings on turbine enclosure:
• All wiring connections must conform to local and national
electric codes.
• Connect electrical conduits to threaded steel couplings.
❑ Four fittings are provided in optional electrical fitting kit
to accommodate wiring to submersible pump and optional
monitoring sensor (see section G6).
• Optional rubber grommets can be used to field -install the
electrical fittings on the turbine enclosure (see section G4
for details).
❑ Not recommended for high groundwater conditions.
