F9. Install Polyethylene Top and
Backfill
After completing all piping and electrical piping connections:
• Verify final grade.
• Trim top of turbine enclosure (if necessary).
• Place polyethylene top over turbine enclosure
❑ This top is designed to prevent water runoff from entering
turbine enclosure only.
• Position top and press down to seat the top onto the turbine
enclosure.
• Backfill to turbine enclosure top.
Polyethylene Top (42" Diameter) Top Lid
0.D. Top Clearances
Important: Isolate Turbine Enclosure From Direct
Traffic Loading.
After backfilling to top of turbine enclosure:
• Place 1 1/4" of specified gravel and then 3/4" thick plywood
(4'x 4') over top (but not over lid) to allow a 2" minimum
clearance between top of turbine enclosure and bottom of
concrete pad.
❑ This 2" clearance also provides a channel for water runoff.
If the tank is located in a traffic area:
• Pour 9" thick traffic slab with extra rebar reinforcement
directly onto plywood.
F11. Sealable Turbine Enclosure
Do Not Air Pressure Test Sealable
AWARNING Turbine Enclosure. See Section F7 For
Testing Methods. Sealable Turbine
Enclosures Must Be Isolated From Direct
Traffic Loading.
To prevent water infiltration in high groundwater
conditions (sealable turbine enclosures are not product
tight) sealable turbine enclosure must:
• Be mounted and cemented to tank collar using same
procedure described in section F5.
• Have its top mounted and cemented in place.
• Use electrical couplings kit provided by Owens-Corning.
• Use seal off fittings to make electrical wiring connections
leak free . (If it is to be leak tested using standing water test).
• Use FRP couplings for pipe connections. Do not use
rubber grommets which are not watertight and will leak in
high groundwater conditions.
• Always vent sealable turbine enclosure. The 2" lid fitting
can be used as a vent with piping leading to a point above
the groundwater table.
To adjust for final burial depth:
• Trim bottom of sealable turbine enclosures or bottom of
fiberglass sealable turbine enclosure top.
• Cement in place using kit AD and allow adhesive to cure.
• Torque lid bolts to 25 ft. -lbs. Follow ASTM specifications
for "Structural Joints Using ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts".
• The gasket is a maintenance item which will have to be
replaced periodically or when it shows a leak during a
tightness test.
• Test both joints of enclosure using standing water test
described in section F7.
Sealable Turbine Enclosure (42" or 48" Diameter)
Plywood (48"x48" x 3/4")
Street Box
HDPE Friction Reinforced
Fit Lid Concrete'
Moder length (L)
STE 42B-2 2'
5'h„
2 —F -V,
Polyethylene Top
Tom—
onal Field Installed
Field Installed
rical Coupling for
Coupling
trical Connections
(Kit FC -3)
LField
STE 48B - 2 2'
onded Joint (Kit Ad)
Field Bonded
nment Collar
Containment Collar
Sensor.(CCS)
#5 Rebar 8" on center, both ways, extending 4'0" in all directions
from center
After backfilling to top of turbine enclosure:
• Place 1 1/4" of specified gravel and then 3/4" thick plywood
(4'x 4') over top (but not over lid) to allow a 2" minimum
clearance between top of turbine enclosure and bottom of
concrete pad.
❑ This 2" clearance also provides a channel for water runoff.
If the tank is located in a traffic area:
• Pour 9" thick traffic slab with extra rebar reinforcement
directly onto plywood.
F11.
