Geosyntec°
5. PERFORMANCE MONITORING AND REPORTING
Prior to commencement of the biosparging pilot tests, groundwater samples will be collected from
the PTA wells to establish baseline conditions. Groundwater samples will be collected using low-
flow sampling methodology consistent with the existing standard operating procedure for the Site.
During low-flow sampling, field parameters including pH, DO, oxidation-reduction potential
(ORP), specific conductivity, turbidity and temperature readings will be recorded. The
groundwater samples will be analyzed for sulfolane, ammonia, nitrate, sulfate, phosphate, total
and dissolved iron, and dissolved manganese by a California certified laboratory. Field
colorimetric tests will be employed for evaluation of color. Upon completion of startup activities,
groundwater samples will be collected from all observation wells and analyzed for the
aforementioned constituents to evaluate potential effects of ISB during startup. Additional
performance monitoring samples will be collected after 3 months of pilot test operation. If the 3-
month results meet the objectives of the pilot test, additional performance monitoring will be
discontinued and groundwater monitoring per the Site's routine monitoring program will resume.
If the pilot test objectives are not met after 3 months of operation, additional performance
monitoring samples will be collected at an appropriate frequency determined by field observations.
Upon completion of field implementation activities,a Pilot Test Implementation Report(Pilot Test
Report) will be prepared and submitted to the CVRWQCB. The Pilot Test Report will include a
detailed summary of pilot test activities and performance monitoring results. It will also include
conclusions related to ZOI and optimal well spacing, sulfolane degradation mechanism, rate and
extent, and optimum sparge frequency and duration. The Pilot Test Report may propose a
conceptual path forward for full-scale implementation at the Site. It will also propose any
supplemental investigation that may be required to support full-scale implementation, if
appropriate.
In-Situ Bioremediation Pilot Test Work Plan—GSH Lathrop 12
