�r � ' I Idlewild Page 2 i Residual petroleum hydrocarbon contamination was evidenced in the excavation sample collected from the north sidewall of up to 2,400 ppm Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon- gasoline, 3,200 ppb Toluene, 5,900 ppb Ethylbenzene, 6,500 ppb Xylene and 5.3 ppnf Ethylene Di-bromide. Also, note that the detection limit used for benzene analysis was elevated to 1000`ppb, due to the concentration of contaminants detected. Pit 1 was subsequently backfilled with pea gravel. The'contaminated soil-which was excavated. from Pit 1 is pending treatment once a San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution 'Control District permit is issued. Confirmation soil sampling will be necessary to verify the completion of soil treatment. No contamination was detected in the;samples collected from beneath tank #6 or soil j borings beneath tanks #1 and #5 located in Pit 2. No further investigation is required in j the area of Pit 2 The Condor report recommended that at least 3 5 feet of soil be removed from the north sidewall of Pit 1. The Oil Equipment correspondence,indicated that:additional over excavation was not a feasible remedial alternative due to structural integrity problems and instead suggested in-situ bioremediation. Prior to evaluation of a detailed proposal for in-situ bioremediation, the extent of soil contamination'inust first be determined. Please submit by,October 29, 1993, a work plan to continue the investigation of contamination evidenced in Pit 1.
