1.2 SUMMARY OF PREVIOUS SITE ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES
In July 1999, a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment was prepared for the WildRose
Vineyards Company (at that time a prospective buyer of the Site),>by their environmental
consultant. The October 15, 1999 CW&M letter report entitled "Support for Site Closure,"was
submitted to the County on behalf of Dole, and addressed the former UST at VFO. In 1993, a
report was prepared for Dole and submitted to the RWQCB by Tenera Associates (1993), who
documented the installation of three shallow groundwater-monitoring wells associated with the
facility discharge ponds. Based on CW&M's review of available files and documents, no other
investigations or assessments have been conducted nor are any other related documents
otherwise available regarding the Site.
1.3 PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE UST SITE INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES
The CW&M letter report "Support for Site Closure" documented the basis for regulatory
agency closure regarding the former 550-gallon capacity UST. During the UST removal
rl
process, soil samples were collected by Dole, and their collection witnessed by PHS/EHD. The
required soil samples collected from the excavation in November 1991 contained no detected
constituents at concentrations above the PHS/EHD's maximum allowable soil concentrations.
Analytical laboratory testing on the collected soil samples included total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHg), and the gasoline constituents benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene
(BTEX).
The objective of the Site investigation conducted in March 2000 was to further investigate the
location of the former UST, collect representative soil samples from two soil borings, and
analyze those samples for the gasoline constituents BTEX and oxygenate compounds including
methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE). The investigation findings are presented herein this Report.
DF10010L8JCPM.AR3C.062000 2
