Site Background Information: Terminous Market
Page 2 of 3
underlain by fine textured alluvium frow mixed sources,The Kingile soils formed from hydrophytic
plant remains and mixed mineral alluviums in flesh water marshes, deltas, and old river channels.
The sedimentary units at the site are relatively horizontal. Based on quarterly ground water
monitoring events conducted at the site begnmmg in November 2004, ground water is currently
encountered at approximately 3 fest to 6 feet below surface grade(bsg)and flows north-northwest.
However, local ground water flow patterns at the site have been somewhat erratic.Ground water is
considered to be of beneficial use and is used for domestic, industrial and commercial purposes.
UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
On 27 April 1988,two 330-gallon gasoline USTs were removed fiom the site by Mr. Jacobs. The
approximate locations of the former USTs are shown on Figure 2.
Immediately following the UST removal, two sail sus—one each from beneath the leaded and
unleaded gasoline USTs and designated R1 and n nmpectively—were collected at a depth of4 feet
beg and analyzed for total petroleum hyr nxwboss goantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and volatile
aromatic compounds benzene, toluene, and torn/xylenes. The soil sample collected from beneath
the former leaded gasoline UST was also analyzed for ethyleee dibromide(EDB)and total lead
Ethylbenzene and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)wen not analyzed in either of the soil samples
collected.In R1,TPH-g was detected at a conaeetrstion of 570 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg),
toluon was decocted at a concentration of 84 nq&& and total xylenes were detected at a
concentration of 230 mg/kg.Benzene was not reported m either soil sample submitted for analysis.
PREVIOUS SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATIONS
• On 22 March 2000, hour soil borings(B1 dwevo 84)were advanced by AGE at the site.
TPH-g was detected is the soil sample collected from B2 at 10 foot bag at a concentration of
14 nsgfleg.TPH-g was datecW in the Stab ground wa/er des collecW fraEm BI and B2
at c - of 120,000 m icrcgrass per user (pe) and 13,000 pW1, respectively.
Beammw, toluene, ethybeanne, and total xylenes (BTEX) were also detected at
concaretristlons as high as 56,000 pW1 xylenes(Bl).
• On 01 November 2004,AGE installed four on-site ground water monitoring wells(MW-1
thmu Sh.MW-4)to 25 feet bsg.TPH-g was detected in the soil sample collected from boring
MW3 at 10 font and 15 feet bag(MW3-10 and MW3-15,respectively)at concentrations of
5.2 mg/kg and 1.5 mg/kg, respectively. BTEX compounds were detected in samples
MW3-10 and MW3-15 at maximum concentrations in MW3-10 of 0.064 mg/kg toluene,
0.13 mg/kg ethylbenzene,and 0.64 mglkg total xylenes.
