DISCUSSION
Review of the monitoring data from start-up on January 5, 1990 to January 23, 1990,the
contamination in the soils is shown to exist within the areas of influence of the monitoring
wells located between the pump island and the underground tanks. The concentrations
of gasoline contaminants in the soil are relatively low and after initial vapor development
have progressively decreased indicating that the vapor extraction is rapidly remediating
the soil contamination. Utilizing selected monitoring wells and vapor extraction wells as
inlet wells for the system will maximize the rate of remediation via vapor extraction and
should improve the groundwater quality within three months. The dissolved groundwater
u
contamination will begin to partition off of the shallow groundwater into the capillary fringe
G
of the vadose zone. Seasonal fluctuations of the groundwater level in the upcoming
w spring and summer months will expose more vertical fractions of the vadose zone and
` will further improve the groundwater quality.
1
l ti
8
VAPOR EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY, INC.
