Work Plan for Soil Excavation/Additional Assessment 2
Barbara Drake,26485 North Thornton Rd.,Thornton, CA October 6, 1994
TASK 1: SITE-SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN/BACKGROUND REVIEW/
PERMITTING
A site-specific Health and Safety Plan will be prepared by Groundwater Technology as required by
the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations
and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910.120). The document will be reviewed and
signed by all Groundwater Technology personnel and subcontractors performing work at the site.
Groundwater Technology has conducted a technical review of the pertinent information associated
with the site. Permits for well installation will be obtained from the San Joaquin County Public
f; Health Services - Environmental Health Division (SJC;PHS-EHD).
TASK 2: SOIL EXCAVATION
Based on data collected during previous environmental investigations at the site (Wallace-Kuhl and
Associates, 1994) Groundwater Technology will supervise the excavation of hydrocarbon-impacted
soil in and around the former UST cavity, piping and dispenser island areas as delineated by
previous trenching at the site. Soil will be screened for hydrocarbons by the field geologist using a
photo-ionization detector (PID) and visual observation.
Confir oil sJamples will be collected from the bottom and sidewalls of the final excavation.
Coll samples will be collected by filling brass samples tubes from soil collected in the excavator
bucket or by using an impact sampler. Upon receipt of confirmatory analytical results, the
excavation will be backfilled with clean, fill material with a compaction of at least 95 percent.
TASK 3: WELLHEAD SURVEY
To determine the groundwater flow direction prior to conducting additional soil and groundwater
sampling at the site, Groundwater Technology personnel will conduct a level survey of the existing
groundwater monitoring wellheads to determine their elevation relative to an arbitrary datum. Top of
tcasing elevations will be determined to within 0,01 foot. The wellhead elevations will be combined
CEJ f!` /with depth to water measurements collected during quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling
` ►to events to determine the magnitude and direction of the hydraulic gradient in shallow groundwater at
N the site.
0053SOA.wKP(MISC-75)
EGROUNDWATER
GIEJ TECHNOLOGY "
