Amazon Response: Amazon has implemented processes and procedures to determine a proper waste
characterization based on generator knowledge (to include SDS evaluation and hazard classification). The
site's Regulated Waste Characterization Procedure has been updated to reflect California regulations,
section 3.12 and 3.13 as follows:
"3.12 if your ASIN does not match any of the criteria described in this procedure, follow guidance in
section 3.13 of this document. You have now completed the characterization of the ASIN and can begin
characterizing the next box/item by starting the process over at section 3.2.
3.13 If your ASIN does not match any of the handouts but you suspect the ASIN may be regulated, open
the SDS link for further evaluation. If the SDS does not provide the required information and you still
suspect the waste may be regulated by waste regulations, or you have an unknown item, you need to
quarantine the item and submit a SIM (Simple Issue Management)"
See Attachment#5 (EHS AMZL Regulated Waste Characterization Procedure US Rev G).
Please note that Amazon considers the documents, information and photographs attached to this
response to be, and to contain, trade secrets and/or confidential, sensitive or proprietary information.
If you have any further questions, please contact me at (951) 249 1145 or hallberg@amazon.com
Sincerely,
Justin Hallberg
Sub-Regional EHS Manager
2
