The
clean overburden will be screened by observation and an organic vapor meter,
s I egregated, and used as backfill material. The remainder of the excavation will be filled
with imported clean fill or road base. The contaminated soil will be stockpiled, sampled
and removed to an appropriate disposal facility. A minimum-of 28 soil samples will be
collected from the bottom and sidewalls of the excavation pit. :Samples will be analyzed
for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)as aasoline, TPH as diesel, benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and xylenes, and oxygenated fuel additives.
Prior to the excavation, monitoring wells MWA B, MW-4 and MW-7 will be destroyed by
r. over drilling to total depth and backfilling with neat cement. Following excavation, these
three wells will be reinstalled to the same depths with the same screen intervals.
Following the excavation and removal activities, AGE proposes monitored natural
attenuation to complete the remediation of this site. Groundwater sample collection and
4. analysis is proposed to continue on a quarterly basis for one year, and annually
thereafter. SJC/EHD does not approve this reduction in monitoring at this time.
Quarterly monitoring of the groundwater must continue until directed otherwise by this
office. Analysis of groundwater samples will include:TPHg and TPHd by EPA Method
8015 modified, BTEX compounds and fuel additives including 1,2-dichloroethane and
ethylene dibromide by EPA Method 8260B, and dissolved, oxygen, carbon dioxide,
alkalinity, hardness, soluble iron and redox potential.
