31 October 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0254
3.4, MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
Following excavation, monitoring wells MW-1B, MW-4 and MW-7 will be replaced. The
replacement wells will be constructed utilizing identical screen intervals and construction materials
as the previous wells. The replacement wells will be developed approximately 24 hours after
installation.
3.5. MONITORED NATURAL ATTENUATION
AGE proposes monitored natural attenuation (NINA), or passive bioremediation, to address
hydrocarbon-impacted ground water at the site. MNA relies on natural processes to degrade
hydrocarbons. As discussed in Section 6.3 of the AGE prepared Corrective Action Plan, dated 18
July 2002,MNA is a passive remedial alternative, requiring no additional bacteria or nutrients to be
added to ground water.
3.5.1. Ground Water Monitoring and Sample Analysis
Based on recommendations presented in the United States Environmental Protection Agency's How
to Evaluate Alternative Cleanup Technologies For Underground Storage Tank Sites-A Guide For
Corrective Action Plan Reviewers, ground water monitoring and sampling will be conducted on a
quarterly basis for the first year and annually thereafter. Ground water monitoring activities will
include measuring depth to ground water and proper collection of ground water samples. Ground
water sample collection procedures were described in Section 4.3 of the AGE-prepared Initial Work
Plan, dated 15 January 1998.
Ground water samples willbe analyzedby a DHS-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-g and TPH-d in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• BTEX and fuel additivies including DIPE,ETBE,MTBE,TAME,TBA,EDB and 1,2-DCA
by EPA Method 826013; and
• Dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide,pH,alkalinity, hardness, soluble iron and redox potential.
Laboratory reports for ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality
control (QA/QC)reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report
with the findings and recommendations.
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
