18 September 1998
AGE-NC Project No 96-0254
23 SOIL LOGGING
During drilling, auger returns were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an organic
vapor meter (OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580A,
10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) Auger returns were placed on plastic and stored on the western
edge of the site, pending laboratory analysis
I
Duplicate p soli samples were extruded from their sleeve and screened for the presence of organic
vapor using the OVM The OVM readings were recorded on boring logs The soil was then
described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (see Bonng Logs, Appendix
A)
I '
24 WELL COMPLETION
Soil bonngs B10 and B14 were completed as dual-screened ground water monitoring wells MW-2
and MW-1, respectively Soil borings B11, B12, B13 were completed as conventional ground water
C• monitoring wells MW-3, MW-6 and MW-5, respectively Field numbering of the wells was
determined prior to each wells installation to aide the PHS-EHD in field Inspections However, as
stated in Section 2 0 , proposed ground water monitoring well MW-4 was not installed and therefore
not detailed in the following narrative
The following is a summary of the construction details
• Well MW-1 (Bonng B14) was dual-completed with 0 02-inch slotted screen installed from
depths of 25 to 30 feet bsg(MW-1 A) and from 5 to 15 feet bsg (MW-1 B) A filter pack was
Installed using#3 Lonestar sand from 23 to 30 feet bsg Bentonite chips were used to make
a 8-foot plug between the upper and lower filter sand packs at 15 to 23 feet bsg The upper
filter pack was installed using#2 Lonestar sand from 3 to 15 feet bsg Bentonite chips were
used to make a two-foot transition seal above the upper filter pack The remaining annular
space was backfilled to the surface with portland cement A traffic-rated well box (12-inch
diameter) was Installed over each well, In accordance with County regulations
• Well MW-2 (Bonng B 10) was dual-completed with 0 02-inch slotted screen installed from
depths of 23 to 28 feet bsg(MW-2A) and from 5 to 15 feet bsg (MW-2B) A filter pack was
installed using#3 Lonestar sand from 22 to 28 feet and from 3 to 15 feet bsg Bentonite chips
were used to make a 7-foot plug between the two filter sand packs Bentonite chips were
used to make a two-foot transition seal above the upper filter pack The remaining annular
space was backfilled to the surface with portland cement A traffic-rated well box (12-Inch
• diameter) was Installed over each well, In accordance with County regulations
Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc
