1 <br />' 15 August 1997 <br /> • AGE-NC Project No 96-0254 <br />' Page 3 of 7 <br />' equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each sampling run to <br /> avoid cross-contamination <br />' 32 SOIL LOGGING <br />' After sample preservation soil was extruded from the remaining portions of the sleeve and screened <br /> utilizing an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo <br /> Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene), and the readings were recorded on the <br /> IBoring Logs The soil was described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System A <br /> soil profile is depicted in Appendix A <br />' <br /> 33 GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> Grab ground water samples were collected from all probe borings, except boring 134, using a <br /> temporary PVC screen The probe rods were advanced four feet into the ground water, pulled out, <br /> lieand a screened casing was inserted into the saturated zone Ground water was allowed to enter the <br /> casing, and samples were retrieved using a modified PVC tubing bailer <br />' After sample retrieval,the water sampler was disassembled and cleaned New PVC tubing was used <br /> to collect each sample Water samples were collected into 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials <br /> containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid for sample preservation The samples were placed in a <br /> chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI for analysis <br /> 34 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SOIL AND GROUND WATER SAMPLES <br /> Selected soil and giound water samples were analyzed in accordance with EPA Method 5030/8015- <br /> 1 M for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline(TPH-g),in accordance with EPA Method <br /> 8020 for volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes BTE&X), and in <br /> accordance with EPA Methods 8020 and 8260 for methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) One soil and <br /> two ground water samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel <br /> (TPH-d) in accordance with EPA Method 5030/8015m modified for diesel <br /> Advaneed GeoEniironmental Inc <br /> I <br />
