KLEINFELQER
2 BACKGROUND
E.-
4 The Tracy Community Memorial Hospital is located at 1420 North Tracy Boulevard in
Tracy, California (Plate 1, Site Location Map). It is Kleinfelder's understanding that two
underground diesel tanks (one 500 and the second 5,000 gallons) were excavated and
removed from the site on September 19, 1988. Two soil samples were collected and
analyzed by California Water Labs of Modesto, California for' total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) and benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX) using EPA Method. 8015 and
EPA Method 8020, respectively. The approximate sample locations are shown in Plate 2.
Results from the previous analyses indicated that the western sample (P-69750) had a TPH
value of 4,400 mg/kg but was nondetect for BTX. A copy of the laboratory data sheets and
chain-of-custody are provided in Appendix A. Between September 19 and October 29,
1988, the excavation was backfilled with the removed soil to minimize the potential hazard
of an open excavation.
Lx
Review by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health District advised that Tracy
Community Memorial Hospital further assess the site. On October 28, Tracy Community
Memorial Hospital authorized Kleinfelder to-prepare a work plan to assess possible soil
contamination in the vicinity of two former underground diesel fuel tanks. Upon review by
the Environmental Health Division of the San Joaquin Local Health District, the work plan
was accepted.
Tracy Community Memorial Hospital authorized Kleinfelder to assess the lateral and
vertical extent of contamination in the remaining soil surrounding the tank excavation as
described in the approved work: plan. This report describes the field activities and
analytical results associated with the investigation.
150-88-2193 2
