' MW-3A were presented by Mittelhauser in the report entitled Monitoring Well MW-3A
Installation Report dated December 3, 1993 (Appendix B)
60 CONCLUSIONS
The majority of the petroleum hydrocarbon affected soil above the water table in the
' vicinity of the former gasoline and waste oil USTs, and the oil drum storage area, was
removed during the over-excavation program following the removal of the gasoline
USTs The minor levels of residual petroleum hydrocarbons in the unsaturated soil
should not pose a threat to the environment Unocal formally petitions the San
' ,Joaquin County Health Department for no further action on soils at this site
' The heavily-affected soil up to 3 feet below the water table was removed and 1 ,320
gallons of contaminated groundwater were pumped out of the UST excavation
' Therefore, the current level and extent of residual hydrocarbons below the water table
(dissolved and adsorbed to the soil) appears to be relatively small and are not
considered a threat due to potential migration to offsite locations
' 7,0 RECOMMENDATIONS
' Based on the results of the confirmation soil samples obtained from the site
excavations (USTs, product lines, pump islands, and hoists), it is recommended that
' the site be considered for no further action and closure with respect to the soil above
the water table In addition, it is recommended that no further action be taken with
' respect to residual hydrocarbons in the soil and that monitoring and sampling of the
four onsite monitoring wells should continue on a quarterly basis during 1994
Following the 1994 monitoring and sampling, the site groundwater conditions should
be reevaluated to determine the need for continued monitoring and sampling
1
1
8 / Cittelhauser
p O R P O R A T I O N
P21 SOR006 wp(03l941
