i <br /> FNVIROJN, ENTAL HEALTH <br /> iftelhauser PITT N SFRVICE <br /> 0- mc o R P o R A T 1 o N 7901 Stoneridge Drive,Suite 123 <br /> 93 NOV 19 PM 2: 22 Pleasanton,California 94588 <br /> (510)416 2900 Fax(5101416-0957 <br /> November 10, 1993 <br /> Mr Edward C Ralston <br /> Unocal Corporation <br /> 2000 Crow Canyon Place, Suite 400 <br /> San Ramon, California 94583 <br /> SUBJECT Monitoring Well MW-3A Installation Work Plan <br /> Unocal Station #6348 <br /> 3788 Tracy Boulevard <br /> Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Ralston <br /> Mittelhauser Corporation (Mittelhauser) has prepared this work plan to Install <br /> monitoring well MW-3A to replace well MW-3 at the subject site (see the Site <br /> • Location Map, Figure 1 ) Well MW-3 was abandoned on November 24, 1992 In <br /> preparation for the tank pull and soil excavation program that occurred at the site <br /> The proposed location of MW-3A is Illustrated in Figure 2 (Site Plan) The proposed <br /> location is in the vicinity of the former fuel and waste oil tanks, outside of the area <br /> of excavation backfill The location of the well near the property boundary should <br /> ensure that the well will not be in the way of future construction plans for the site <br /> Well MW-3A will be installed in accordance with the procedures outlined by <br /> Mittelhauser in the "Final Remedial Plan" for the subject site dated September 1992 <br /> In summary, the boring for the well will be drilled using a truck-mounted 8-inch <br /> outside diameter holiow-stem auger drilling rig Soil samples will be collected at 5- <br /> foot intervals using a 2 112-inch outside diameter California-Modified Sampler lined <br /> with clean brass tubes The sampler will be driven using a 140 pound hammer falling <br /> 30 Inches <br /> The boring will be logged by a qualified geologist Descriptions of the encountered <br /> soils will be recorded according to United Soil Classification System standards and <br /> Ilthologic contacts will be noted Soil samples will be screened for volatile organics <br /> with a field operated photoionization detector (PID) meter <br /> The well will be constructed with 2-inch diameter PVC casing to a depth <br />• approximately 10 feet below first encountered groundwater It is anticipated that the <br /> water table will be between 10 and 15 feet below the ground surface Therefore, the <br /> Your Partner in Environmental Management qW <br /> Chicago IL Indianapolis IN ■ Laguna Hills CA • Pleasanton, CA [�� <br />
