3
Ground Water Batch Removal and Additional Site Assessment Work Plan
YAMADA BROTHERS
15406 South Tracy Boulevard, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Yamada Brothers Farm,Advanced GeoEnvironmentai, Inc. (AGE) has prepared
this Ground Water Batch Removal and Additional Site Assessment WorkPlan for 15406 South Tracy
Boulevard,Stockton,California(site). The scope of work includes ground waterbatch removal from
monitoring well MW-4 and the advancement of three soil probe borings for the collection of grab
ground water samples to vertically and laterally define hydrocarbon-impacted ground water west of
monitoring well MW-4. The location of the site is illustrated on Figure 1. A plan of the site is
illustrated on Figure 2. Site background information is provided in Appendix A.
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)has recommended,by electronic
mail dated 06 May 2008, the performance of a ground water batch removal to extract hydrocarbon-
impacted ground water from well MW-4,and to define the lateral and vertical extent of hydrocarbon-
impacted groundwater west ofwell MW-4.These recommendations were made to satisfy conditions
for site closure as determined by a meeting on 16 April 2008 between representatives of the EHD
and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board(CVRWQCB). This work plan has
been prepared in accordance with CVRWQCB guidelines for the investigation of underground
storage tanks sites.
2.0. BATCH GROUND WATER REMOVAL SCOPE OF WORK AND PROCEDURES
Since the initiation of quarterly groundwater monitoring ofwell MW-4 in June 2004,concentrations
of total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) detected in ground water samples
from this well have vacillated, but remain present. Currently, well MW-4 is the only site well with
detectable concentrations of chemicals of concern(COC). In order to reduce the current impact of
petroleum hydrocarbons to ground water, AGE recommends performing one ground water batch
removal. Sample analysis may determine the necessity for additional batch removal events.
AGE proposes to perform the batch removal using a three-horsepower Central pneumatic electric
air compressor and a submersible, fluid pneumatic extraction pump manufactured by QED (model
AP-2) to continuously extract ground water from the well screen interval of MW-4. Ground water
will be purged at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute from well MW-4 for the duration
necessary to remove 20,000 gallons of water(approximately 12 days). Ground water will be stored
on-site, in a 20,000-gallon tank supplied by Baker Tanks. At the conclusion of the ground water
batch removal event, extracted ground water from MW-4 will be transported off-site and properly
disposed of at an Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)-approved waste water facility.
Depth to ground water measurements will be taken daily from wells MW-1 through MW-3 and
MW-5 through MW-7 to estimate draw down effects of the ground water removal.
