26 June 1998
AGE-NC-98-0452
• volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes: BTE&X) accordance with
EPA Method 80201602 '
Laboratory reports, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports,
and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be presented in a report with the findings and
recommendations.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. DRILLING AND SAMPLING
The following procedures will be performed for the installation of ground water monitoring wells:
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
2. Mark boring locations at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service Alert (USA)
check of underground utilities or pipes.
3. Advance three soil borings utilizing a truck-mounted drill rig and 8-inch diameter hollow
stem augers to total depths of 20 feet bsg. Proposed boring locations are depicted on Figure
2. Borings may be advanced to greater depth, if necessary to define the vertical extent of
impacted soil and ground water.
4. Decontaminate all sampling equipment in an Alconox solution and rinse with water prior to
each sampling run. Steam-clean auger flights before advancement of each boring.
5. Collect soil samples at 5-foot intervals in each boring, beginning at a depth of 5 feet bsg.
Samples will be collected using a California split-spoon sampler loaded with three 2-inch by
6-inch brass sleeves. The sampler will be driven by dropping a 140-pound weight from a
height of 30 inches. The number of blow required to advance the sampler in 6-inch
increments will be recorded on the boring log.
6. Preserve soil in the lead sleeve by covering both ends with Teflon sheets, capping, and
sealing with tape.
7. Label and log samples on a chain-of-custody form.
8. Store samples in a chilled container and transport to a state-certified laboratory for analysis.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydroclarbons quantified as diesel
(TPH-d) and for volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes; BTE&X)
in accordance with the EPA Methods 8015m and 8020.
Advanced GcoEnviranmenlal,Inc.
