' k'" KLEINFEL © ER
4.3 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT AND SURVEYING
' At least 24 to 48 hours after installation, the three monitoring wells were developed to remove
sediment-laden water and to increase the hydraulic radius of the well Development was
performed using a pneumatic development pump and as described in Appendix B, Sections B-
' 3 2 through B-3 3 The three new monitoring wells, MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 and the existing
monitoring well MW-lwere surveyed on January 7, 2002 by Morrow Surveying of West
Sacramento Vertical measurements were surveyed to the nearest 1/100' of a foot with reference
' to the City of Lodi benchmark No 252 The measuring point for each well is the north side of the
top of the PVC casing pipe
' 4.4 MEASUREMENT OF WATER LEVELS
' A water level measurement was made in each of the four monitoring wells at the beginning of
the sampling round prior to purging and sampling of the wells The depth-to-water was
measured in each well according to the protocol described in Appendix B, Section B-4 The
depths to water, measuring from the north side of the top of the PVC pipe, ranged from 34 95 to
35 91 feet (see Table 2) The depth-to-water measurements were converted to groundwater
elevations and groundwater flow direction and gradient was calculated Groundwater flow was
' found to be to the southwest with a gradient of 0 003 ft/ft (see Plate 2)
4.5 COLLECTION OF GROUNDWATER SAMPLES
A total of four groundwater samples were collected on January 11, 2002 The groundwater
' samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-4 The wells were purged
and sampled using disposable bailers as generally described in Appendix B A transparent
disposable bailer was partially submerged into the groundwater prior to purging each
' monitoring well to assess the groundwater for a potential sheen and/or floating product No
floating product was observed, although a sheen was noted in MW-1 along with a slight odor
There was no sheen, nor odor, observed in groundwater from the three other monitoring wells
' Copies of the monitoring well sampling logs are included in Appendix C
Purge water from the monitoring wells was stored on site in labeled 55-gallon drums pending
' chemical analysis and disposal by the client
4.6 SAMPLE HANDLING
1
After collection, the soil and groundwater samples were labeled, logged on a chain-of=custody,
1 and immediately stored in an iced cooler The samples were transported under cham-of-
custody control to Klemfelder's office and then transported by courier in a sealed container to
Alpha Analytical of Sparks, Nevada for chemical analysis Alpha Analytical is certified by the
California Department of Health Services to perform the requested analyses
20-1417-16 E04/ST02R038 Page 8 of 18
©2002 Klemfelder,Inc June 7,2002
