REQUEST FOR SITE CLOSURE <br /> GENERAL MILLS FACILITY <br /> 2004 WEST TURNER ROAD <br /> LODI, CALIFORNIA <br /> DELTA PROJECT NO. 40-92-708 <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE <br />' Delta Environmental Consultants, Inc (Delta), has been authorized by General Muls Incorporated <br /> (General Mills) to conduct a hydrogeologic investigation and assessment of the former underground fuel <br />' oil tank location at the General Mills facility located at 2000 West Turner Road, Lodi, San Joaquin <br /> County, California The location of the site is shown ui Figure 1 and site features are shown in Figure 2 <br /> The purpose of this report is to obtain regulatory site closure It is our opinion that site closure is <br /> warranted at this time, based on the fact that petroleum hydrocarbons are not present in ;round water and <br />' the fact that soil containing diesel oil #6 is limited to a small volume directly beneath the tormer <br /> underground storage tank location. This report is being submitted to the Technical Advisory Committee <br /> for review and concurrence that site closure is appropriate <br /> 2.0 SITE BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> 2.1 Site Description <br />' The project site is located at the southwest corner of Turner Road and Mills Avenue The Mokelumne <br /> River is located approximately 112 mile north of the site <br /> 2.2 Under--round Storase Tank Removal, 1970s <br /> In 1947 or 1948, two 5,000 gallon underground fuel oil tanks were installed at the location shown m <br /> Figures 2 and 3 The tanks were removed in 1973 and replaced with larger tanks. Apparently, in the <br />' wake of the 1972 oil embargo, General Mills decided a larger supply of fuel oil was necessary in the <br /> event of future fuel shortages. According to the General Mills engineer in charge of the tank replacement <br />' project, oil-stained sod was observed. However, no puddles of oil were present <br />' 2.3 Underground Storage Tank Removal Work, October 1991 <br /> Three 12,000-gallon underground storage tanks containing No 6 heating oil were removed during the <br />' period of October 11-17, 1991 After removing the tanks, soil was excavated to a depth of approximately <br /> RFT076 TA <br />
