SELECTION OF SOIL SAMPLES FOR CERTIFIED LABORATORY ANALYSES
A WEGE geologist selected all three groundwater hydropunch samples and l I of the 19
soil samples for certified laboratory analyses. The selections were based on PID readings
from the individual soil samples and their lithology. Soil samples were selected from the
25.5, 30.5, 35.5, 40.5, 46.0, 50.5, 55.5, 58.5, 64.0, 72.5, and 79.5 foot depth intervals.
Following the initial laboratory analysis of the 11 soil samples, two additional soil
samples from the 62.0 and 68.0 depth intervals were also selected for analysis, because
traces of Benzene were detected in samples from the depth intervals above or below those
samples.
CERTIFIED LABORATORY ANALYSES OF SOIL AND GROUNDWATER SAMPLES
Kiff Laboratories analyzed the 13 soil samples and three groundwater samples for
concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-G), Benzene,
Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX) and Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE)
using EPA method 8260B. Kiff also analyzed the three hydropunch groundwater
samples for concentrations of the oxygenants TBA, MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, and TAME
using EPA method 8260B. Soil samples from the 25.5, 30.5, 40.5, and 50.5 depth
intervals were analyzed for concentrations of total lead using EPA method 6010.
DESTRUCTION OF SBI DISPOSITION OF CUTTINGS AND RINSATES
Following soil and groundwater collection, Woodward Drilling Co. grouted the soil
boring SB I to surface by tremie with neat cement and < 5% bentonite.
The approximately one cubic yard of soil cuttings generated by the drilling of SBI were
stored on a base and under a covering of 6-mil visquine in a fenced compound at the rear
of the site. Wastewater generated from the steam cleaning of the augers and evacuation
of groundwater from the soil boring during grouting were stored in labeled 55 gallon
DOT approved drums inside the fenced compound.
RESULTS OF SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
The certified analytical laboratory results from the 13 soil samples and two groundwater
samples collected on December 11, 2000 are listed in Table 1. A copy of Kiffs
laboratory report is included as Appendix C of this report.
SOIL
TPH-G concentrations in the 13 soil samples ranged from a maximum of 160 mg/kg in
the sample collected from 25.5 feet bgs to below the laboratory detection limits of I
mg/kg in all soil samples collected below 35.5 feet bgs.
ARC SRPT 3/2/01 4
