Benzene concentrations in the 13 soil samples ranged from a maximum of 0.077 mg/kg
in the sample collected from 25.5 feet bgs to below the laboratory detection limits of 0.05
mg/kg in all the samples collected below 50 feet with the exception of the soil samples
collected at 58.5, and 72.5 feet bgs. These soil samples showed benzene concentrations
of 0.0067 and 0.0082 mg/kg respectively. The soil samples bracketing those depth
intervals did not contain benzene in concentrations greater than the laboratory detection
limits.
MTBE concentrations in the 13 soil samples ranged from a maximum of 0.024 mg/kg in
the sample collected from 30.5 feet bgs to below the laboratory detection limits of 0.005
mg/kg in the remaining 12 soil samples.
Total lead concentrations in the four soil samples ranged from a maximum of 12 mg/kg at
30.5 and 40.5 feet bgs to 8.1 mg/kg in the soil sample from 25.5 feet bgs. These values
are consistent with total lead concentrations in uncontaminated native soils of the area.
GROUNDWATER
TPH-G concentrations from the three groundwater samples collected by the hydropunch
method from 60-62 feet bgs, and 70-72 feet bgs, and 80-82 feet bgs were 5500 ug/l, 5700
ug/1, and 3100 ug/l respectively.
Benzene concentrations in the three hydropunch groundwater samples collected from 60-
62 feet bgs, and 70-72 feet bgs, and 80-82 feet bgs were 2500 ug/l, 1700 ug/l, and 840
ug/l, respectively.
MTBE concentrations in the three hydropunch groundwater samples collected from 60-
62 feet bgs, and 70-72 feet bgs, and 80-82 feet bgs were 18 ug/l, 17 ug/l, and 7.9 ug/l
respectively. The remaining four oxygenants (TBA, ETBE, DIPE, and TAME) were not
detected in any of the three groundwater samples.
DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
The certified analytical laboratory results from the 13 soil samples collected from SBI
(representing the likeliest location for contaminants at depth) show that soil
contamination does not extend in significant concentrations below 50 feet.
The certified analytical laboratory results from the three hydropunch water samples
suggest that groundwater has been impacted at historically lower groundwater elevations
than are currently being measured in the on-site monitor wells (30-50 feet bgs). The
differences in TPH-G and BTEX concentrations between the three hydropunch samples
and the reduction in these concentrations with depth are consistent with differential
vertical migration of these constituents below the 50 foot depth that is now being
monitored in the existing onsite wells. It is possible, however, that the three hydropunch
samples collected at 60-62, 70-72, and 80-82 feet bgs were in communication with and
ARC SRPT 3/2/01 5
