excavated in order to save time One sample was taken at
13 feet bgl at this location
All spoil was placed at the north end of the east spoil
pile on plastic ground cover as shown on Figure 4. Spoil
samples were not taken
All samples were taken using sterile brass tubes supplied
by FGL Laboratories, the tube ends were capped with teflon
cloth and plastic caps, sealed with duct tape and the
samples were placed in an ice chest for transportation to
the FGL laboratory .
Operations were completed about 5 •PM
TEST RESULTS
The samples were tested for BTEX, TPH-G, TPH-D, EDS AND
OIL & GREASE.
All tests showed no detectable hydrocarbon contamination
at the tests limits (See Table A)
These data were received several weeks behind schedule
owing to FGL not understanding that a "quick result"
schedule had been requested, also , because the first tests
had not included Q & G to LUFT standards , that is , the
418 . 1 test The 416 . 1 test results were not received by
WJH until November 15 , 1991
DISCUSSION
The re-excavation, re-sampling and re-testing vaiidated
the original estimation of WJH, that the heavy hydrocarbon
compounds that were found (See attached reports ) had not
migrated very far from the old cesspool (or possibly a
dug well for a Japanese bath house) . The SE GOR 18 '
SAMPLE, which was located ad3acent to and either below or
at the bottom of the old "cesspool " , indicates that
neither deeper migration nor widespread lateral migration
occurred The lack of detection of contaminates in the
other samples indicate the same
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
The following 1s a summary of WJH opinions and conclusions
regarding the results of the field work performed ( 1) The
contamination found was primarily from the disposal of
heavy oils and greases into what was either an old cess-
pool or water well abandoned at least 20 years ago, (2)
owing to the heavy grease components found in the samples
tested and the relatively dense clay level found at about
13 ' bgl , neither deep migration nor wide lateral migration
was either anticipated or found, (3) either all or
2
