• buildin4s on this and the adiacent property to the north
Refer tf Figure 1 of Attachment 1 for details
The project site is located easterly of the center of the
Central Valley of California, also referred to as the
southern portion of the Sacramento Valley. It lies about 1/2
mile westerly of the Mockeiumne River . The entire region is
one of low relief, with elevations of about 90 ' locally . The
shallow sediments that form the groundwater regime are
composed of alluvial and flood plain interspersed sands,
gravels , silts and clays of varying proportions They are
usually soft to friable with local areas of greater
cementation Hydraulic connection is widespread with common
groundwater levels throughout the valley, although
individual strata vary widely
SOILS CLASSIFICATION'
According to the publication, "Soils of San Joaquin County
California, " June, 1952, University of California, the
property is underlain by Hanford sandy loam, Soil Type 10
See Figure 2 for the area soil classifications and Attach-
ment 5 for soil details
DEPTH TO GROUNDWATER
• Although two wells are located nearby, one within about 25 '
of the site in question, the exact depth to groundwater is
not known The Spring 1990 edition of the San Joaquin Co
Flood Control and Water Conservation District Map (Figure 3)
shows groundwater to be found at about 90 ' below ground
level (MSL elevation of 901 -- 0 ' from Figure 3 = 90 ' ) No
moisture; was encountered when digging at 20 ' during the
recent excavation Figure 5 , groundwater levels as of Fall ,
1983 , a time of high groundwater levels in the area, shows
the groundwater to have been about 85 ' below ground level
(MSL elevation of 90 ' -5 ' from Figure 4 = 851 ) .
MUNICIPAL AND MONITORING WELLS
Owing to the relative isolation of the location in a
country-farm environment, no wells other than the on-sight
farm wells are nearby Figure 5 shows the locations of wells
used for preparation of the groundwater level maps
PRIOR HISTORY OF SITE
The site has been part of a farming operation since the
early 1900 ' s A 300 gallon gasoline tank, holding regular
gasoline, was installed at an unknown date and used to fuel
farm equipment prior to 1970 . As will be shown later herein,
• the tank site had been used for a Japanese bath house and an
abandoned cesspool was located immediately ad3acent to the
tank site
2
