Highway 12
Lodi, CA 95242
CONDITIONAL APPROVAL, GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
WORKPLAN, VANRVITEN— TAYLOR WINERY, LODA SANJOA QUIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan, prepared by Eco:Logic
Engineering, dated May 2004. The plan was required by Waste Discharge Requirements Order No.
R5-2003-0179, Provision G.2.b.
After reviewing the workplan, I have the following comments:
— The monitoring wells appear to monitor the location where wastewater is presently applied.
However, the WDRs allow wastewater to be applied to up to 200 acres of land. Additional wells
may be required to adequately monitor the land application areas. Please resubmit Figure 5 with
an adequate number of groundwater monitoring wells to allow characterization of the entire land
application area.
— The goal of the groundwater monitoring program is to monitor the first saturated zone. Please
limit the top of the screen interval depth below the water table to a maximum of ten feet.
— If a slip cap is used on the bottom of the well casing, it must be secured using stainless steel
screws.
The workplan is approved on the condition that the above comments are addressed in an addendum letter
to be submitted prior to installation of the wells. If you have any questions on this conditional approval,
please telephone me at (916) 464-4616.
TIMOTHY .
