PROJECT SCOPE
Outlined below is a summary of the scope of services to be performed by Geocon.
Pre-field Activities
• Prepare a Health and Safety Plan (HSP) for the proposed sampling. The HSP will provide guidelines
on the use of personal protective equipment and the health and safety procedures to be implemented
during the proposed sampling activities
• Retain the services of Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL), a Caltrans-approved and
California-certified analytical laboratory, to perform the chemical analyses of soil samples.
Field Activities
Soil Sampling along I-205
Field activities will include the advancement of 36 soil borings (E1 to E18 and W1 to W18) using
direct push or hand-auger sampling techniques. The borings will be advanced to a depth of 2.5 feet at
locations of proposed construction activities along the 1-205 eastbound and westbound unpaved
shoulders. Sample locations are shown on Figures 2a and 2b.
Soil Sampling along Commerce Way
Field activities will include the advancement of 18 soil borings (CEI to CE6, CMI to CM6, and CW1
to CW6) using direct push or hand-auger sampling techniques. The borings will be advanced to a
depth of 2.5 feet at locations of proposed construction activities along the Commerce Way unpaved
shoulders. Sample locations are shown on Figure 2b.
Soil Sampling for Private Property Takes
Field activities will include the advancement of 12 soil borings (RI to R12) using direct push or hand-
auger sampling techniques. The borings will be advanced to a depth of 4.5 feet at locations of
proposed right-of-way acquisition and construction activities. Sample locations are shown on Figures
2a and 2b.
Soil and Grab-Groundwater Sampling for Bridge Structure
Field activities will include the advancement of 2 soil borings (S 1 aqnd S2) using direct push sampling
techniques. The borings will be advanced to a depth of 20 feet at locations of proposed bridge
abutments along I-205. Sample locations are shown on Figures 2a and 2b.
Soil samples collected directly from the hand-auger bucket will be collected in clean glass jars or
stainless steel tubes and sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps. Soil samples collected using
direct push equipment will be cut from the acetate lines and capped with Teflon tape and plastic end
caps. Grab-groundwater samples (if encountered) will be collected using new disposable tubing and a
waterra foot vale and discharged directly into laboratory supplied containers. All samples will be
labeled and delivered to the analytical laboratories under chain-of-custody protocol. The borings will
be backfilled with excess soil cuttings.
The location of all borings will be recorded using global positioning system (GPS) equipment
concurrent with sample collection. The northing and easting will be referenced to North American
Datum (NAD) 83.
Project No.E8769-02-01 -2- September 17,2014
