r
CLEARWATER
G R O U P, I N C.
Laboratory and field handling procedures can be monitored by including
quality control (QC) samples for analysLc with the other samples collected.
Examples of different types of QC samples are as follows:
Trip blank - This is used for purgable organic compounds only. They are..
prepared at the analytical laboratory by laboratory personnel. Trip blanks
travel to the project site with the sample containers to be filled. Theyare
not opened, and are returned to the la oratory with the samples collected
at the site for analysis.
• Field blank - This is prepared in the field using distilled water. They are to
accompany the samples collected at the site to the laboratory, to be
analyzed for the same chemical parameters as those collected at the site.
• Duplicates - These are to be collected at the same time that the required
- q
samples are being collected. They ar typically only collected from'one
well per sampling event, and may be collected from a different well each
time. -
. Generally, trip blanks and field blanks check field handling and
transportation procedures. The duplic ite samples generally checks the
laboratory procedures. The number and types of QC samples will be
determined by CGI, depending on site conditions and regulatory
requirements.
r
i
CLEARwA=GROUP,INC. 5 June?—1995
C
N
