CLEAR A ER
G R O U P I_ N C.
2.O FIELD ACTIVI E5
All work was. performed according to . Clearwater's • Well Installation and
Groundwater Sampling Protocols and under .the, directives and guidelines
established by the PHS/EHD and the Regional Water .Quality Control Board.
: . Clearwater Protocols are attached as Appendix A.
2.1. Soil Borehole Drilling and Soil Sampling .
Clearwate"s .workplan was approved and permits' ;were obtained from the-
PHS/EHD. A safety briefing was conductedwith 'Mitchell Drilling of Rancho
Cordova,,California prior to drilling on'Februar 23, .1995 All personnel reviewed
and signed the..Health and Safety Plan at the end,of the briefing .(Appendix B). i
Copies of,all permits are attached in Appendix C.
Mitchell Drilling used .a CME 75 drill• rig"to-drill three, eight-inch diameter- soil-
borings, designated MW=1, MW-2°`and MW-3, to total depths of 30 feet below grade.
Groundwater was initially measured during.drilling at .22 to 23 feet.below grade. A
two-inch inside diameter continuous core sampler was, used to collect soil samples .
from MW-3: Discreet 187. samples were collect d every five feet from soil borings , i
'MW=1 and MW-2 using a California-modified split-spoon,sampler lined with three
M two-inch„diameter brass :tubes. Two soil samples from each boring were selected fora
laboratory analysis, labeled; documented ona chain-of-custody Jorm, and placed in a
cooler for transport to Cirrus-Environmental, Inc., a state-certified laboratory located
in Santa-Maria, California. . The soil samples wee analyzed for TPHg and TPHd by
EPA.Me'thod 8015 (modified), and BTEX by EPA Method.8020 (modified).
Each ;continuous core•sample was retained `fo visual lithologic description by a
Clearwater geologist using the Unified. Soil-'Classification`System, 'and for volatile ,
organic headspace analysis using_a Mini RAE plhoto-ionization detector (PID): PID
readings are presented on the Soil Boring Log and Well Construction Diagrams in
-Appendix C. Soil cuttings generated from drilling were wrapped in plastic and
stored on-site, pending future removal.'
2:2 Monitoring Well Installation; Developmen r.and Survey
On-February 23, 1995, soil borings, MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 were converted into
two=inch•diameter•monitoring wells.with the same designations: Well locations are
shown on Figure 2. The new monitoring wells were developed by a combination,of
surging and bailing on February 28,.1995. . The elevations of the,top-of-casing of all,
"t vin wells were then surveyed relative t© a tern -ovary Benchmark.
monitoring g Y p
D-104 SWI' , 2 May 1, 1995'
