Luhdorff &Scolmanini
Consulting Engineers
MONITORING WELL DESTRUCTION WORK PLAN
SCOPE OF WORK
The work to be completed as part of this work plan encompasses that which is necessary to destroy a
multiple completion monitoring well(multiple piezometers within a single borehole with screen sections
isolated with intermediate bentonite seals). The purpose of the work is to properly destroy the monitoring
well structure to prevent vertical communication of groundwater between the aquifers penetrated by the
well structure and from the ground surface. All work shall be carried out in conformance with the
applicable regulations of the San Joaquin County Department of Environmental Health (SJCDEH) and the
California Department of Water Resources.
The monitoring well shall be destroyed using explosives placed in each piezometer. The goal of the
blasting plan is to shatter the individual piezometer casings in order to allow neat cement to intrude/fill
the voids in the installed gravel pack and piezometer casings, resulting in a monolithic cement structure
that well prevent vertical movement of water. A blasting plan shall be prepared by licensed, experienced
well destruction contractor specializing in this method of well destruction.
Summary of Work to be Performed
The monitoring well to be destroyed will be done so according to all applicable local and state regulations.
The work generally includes:
• Submission of permits to SJCDEH
• Destruction of above ground feature (stove pipe enclosure, cement pad, bollards)
• Excavating to a depth of five below ground surface (bgs) around the monitoring
well structure and removal of existing cement seal and piezometer casings to a
depth of five feet below ground surface
• Placement of explosives in each piezometer
• Placement of neat cement in each piezometer to bottom of excavation
• Detonation of explosives
• Adding of additional neat cement to the well structure until it overflows into the
excavated area to form a mushroom cap.
• Back filling the excavation with native fill
• Site Cleanup
• Submission of Well Completion Report and Records
MONITORING WELL
The monitoring well is a%rT completion nested piezometer well (see attached monitoring well
profile).
500 First Street (530)661-0109
woadiand.CA 95776 vrWw.lsce.Corm
